How to Wash a Pigment-Dyed Hoodie Without Ruining the Finish

A pigment-dyed hoodie is designed to have depth rather than a perfectly flat, synthetic black. The finish can develop character with wear, but rough washing, strong detergent and high heat can make that change happen too quickly.

Wash cold and inside out

Turn the hoodie inside out to reduce friction against the graphics and outer surface. Use cold water on a gentle cycle with similar dark colors. Pigment-dyed garments may release color, especially early in their life, so keep them away from pale items.

Use mild detergent

Skip bleach and aggressive stain treatments. Apply a small amount of gentle detergent and avoid pouring concentrated product directly onto the fabric. Treat a spot from the inside when possible and test first.

Limit heat

Air drying is the safest option for preserving cotton structure and printed artwork. Reshape the hood, cuffs and waistband while damp. If a dryer is necessary, use the lowest practical heat and remove the garment promptly.

Do not chase a factory-perfect black

The garment-dyed finish on the BAEPSAE Bird Hoodie is part of its washed streetwear character. The goal is an even, gradual evolution—not preventing every sign of wear.

Store it without stretching

Heavyweight fleece can pull at the shoulders on a narrow hanger. Fold the hoodie or use a broad supportive hanger. Make sure it is completely dry before storage.
